GERMANY : On account of differences of opinion concerning the future strategic positioning of the technical support companies and their integration in the Air Berlin Group, the Board of Air Berlin and Wolfgang Kurth, Chief Maintenance Officer, have come to a mutual agreement, as a result of which Wolfgang Kurth is leaving the company with immediate effect.

The number of passengers transported decreased to 5.5 million, i.e. a 6.2 percent drop, a figure that bested the branch average. For the first quarter of 2009, seasonal operating loss (EBIT) reached minus EUR 87.3 million (Q1 2008: minus EUR 68.6 million).

Air Berlin new service to Tel Aviv

GERMANY : Germany's second largest airline is expanding its route network and will be flying from Israel to Berlin for the first time this summer. From 7-Jul-2009 onwards, Air Berlin passengers will have a choice of two non-stop flights a week from Tel Aviv to Berlin.
