Overview - Click Low cost arrives south of the border with Click Click is the low cost offshoot of Mexico's largest carrier, Mexicana. Its Jul-05 founding lies in the decision of Cintra, the government body that owns Mexicana and smaller rival Aeromexico to convert Mexicana's regional arm Aerocaribes into an LCC. The name Click, a reference to the sound of a computer mouse, signifies its intention to focus on the Internet as its chief means of distribution. In less than two years, Click has grown from a fleet of 10 Fokker F-100s to 15 units, and its destination portfolio has expanded from nine cities to 18 domestic cities – both leisure and business in nature – and Havana, which it connects with Cancun. The first LCC in a market where domestic flights have historically been priced higher than international services, Click has enjoyed solid popularity from the outset by charging fares typically 30% lower than the full-service competition. It claims to have been profitable from its first month of operations, which hints that parent Mexicana is absorbing most of its costs. Outlook unclear for young LCC Click has been popular with the flying public, even accounting for some teething problems that impacted reliability. However, the Mexican LCC sector looks set to grow considerably as several new start-ups (which will operate aircraft more fuel-efficient than Click's F-100s) are planned. Critical to the carriers success will be the growth of the national market; only 5% of Mexico's 100 million people travel by air, most still journey by bus.
