Jetstar reports load factors of above 80% in both domestic and international operations in Jan-08
Jetstar transported 680,000 domestic passengers in Jan-08, a 12.8% year-on-year increase. Comparatively, Qantas domestic passenger numbers increased 2.7% to 1.4 million. Jetstar’s domestic traffic (RPKs) increased 16.6% year-on-year on a 12.4% capacity (ASKs) increase, resulting in a 2.9 ppt load factor increase to 81.6%. Comparatively, Qantas’ load factor fell 0.2 ppts to 80.5%.

 

Meanwhile, Jetstar’s international passenger numbers increased 65.7% year-on-year to 149,000 passengers. Traffic (RPKs) increased 76.1% year-on-year on a 72.6% capacity (ASKs) increase, resulting in a 1.6 ppt load factor improvement to 81.5%.  Meanwhile, parent, Qantas, reduced its international capacity during the month, by 3.2%. Load factor improved 0.8 ppts to 87.4%. Qantas International carried 731,000 passengers, a 4.6% year-on-year reduction.

In the seven months to 31-Jan-08, Jetstar carried 4.4 million domestic passengers, a 7.1% year-on-year increase. Traffic (RPKs) increased 6.9% year-on-year, on a 3.6% capacity (ASKs), resulting in a 2.5 ppts load factor improvement to 82.8%.
 
In the financial year-to-date, Jetstar carried 907,000 international passengers, a significant 175.4% year-on-year increase, as traffic (RPKs) increased 284.9% year-on-year, on a 275.0% capacity (ASKs) increase. Load factor improved 2.0 ppts to 74.9%.
