clickair thinks global, acts local with new carbon offset programme
clickair announced its participation in the United Nation’s ‘Plant the Planet’ programme by signing an agreement with the local council and the ‘Mas Arboles Foundation, to introduce a new carbon offset programme allowing passengers to directly contribute to the development of a forest close to clickair’s El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona headquarters.

clickair will donate the first 250 trees to what will be known as the ‘clickair Forest’, which will be planted by the Llobregat river delta near El Prat Airport.  The forest is part of a wider Spanish initiative which aims to plant 100 million trees in the Iberia peninsula to act as a ‘green barrier’ to stop the desertification effect.  The ultimate objective of the UN’s ‘Plant the Planet’ programme is to plant one billion trees.

clickair CEO, Alex Cruz, said “Our passengers will be able to choose whether to participate in this project with the option of reserving and purchasing tickets on line at clickair.com. Passengers will be informed how many kilograms of CO2 will be emitted by the selected flight(s) and offered the option to voluntarily make a donation that will be used to plant a specific number of trees in the clickair Forest.  Each donation to the clickair forest is received directly by the ‘Mas Arboles’ Foundation and is made via an additional, integrated financial transaction in the booking process.

The Foundation has committed to maintain the clickair Forest over a minimum 25-year period.

Meanwhile, the combination of trees and shrubs chosen for the clickair Forest takes into account the needs of the area, the development of local diversity, the already existing flora and fauna and, of course, the ability to regenerate the atmosphere and compensate the CO2 emissions.
