AirAsia connects ASEAN countries and beyond
AirAsia is set to have the most extensive connectivity to serve ASEAN countries and beyond, with Vientiane as its latest route addition which commenced operations on 01-Dec-07. AirAsia’s expansion continues to grow as the carrier now connects all the cities in ASEAN through Kuala Lumpur as its low cost hub.

 

At the launch of the Kuala Lumpur-Vientiane route, AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes, said “ASEAN needs to become more relevant to the people of ASEAN and it is important for people to be aware and acknowledge that ASEAN is a powerful brand. There has been a lack of ASEAN brands but with AirAsia’s extensive route network, we are proud to showcase how powerful our ASEAN brand can be and how it changes people’ lives. AirAsia hopes to inspire more ASEAN companies to start seeing the wonderful potential of ASEAN.”

The carrier, which commence operations in 2001, has carried over 46 million passengers to over 90 routes, and is targeting 23 million passengers for year 2008 alone. AirAsia also plans to carry 190 million passengers by year 2013. The carrier has also placed the largest order of a total of 175 firm orders of Airbus A320s and 50 purchase options, making it the biggest operator for the aircraft in the world.
