Virgin America seeks Los Angeles-San Jose del Cabo rights
Virgin America has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) seeking authority to operate from Los Angeles International Airport to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.

If approved, the new route will become the carrier's first international destination. The route is under review with the DOT following the 4-Feb-08 announcement that Frontier Airlines would stop serving the market in Apr-08. Under the U.S-Mexico bilateral aviation agreements, the DOT can now select another airline to serve the West Coast destination in Frontier's place.

Virgin America President and CEO, David Cush, said "We saw that the DOT had Cabo rights under review, and we simply could not pass up the opportunity… since it was a low-cost airline that is giving up the right to fly to Cabo, we think it would be ideal for another low-cost carrier to take its place."
