Cebu Pacific overtakes Philippine Airlines in 2007 domestic market
(XFN - Asia) Budget carrier, Cebu Pacific, has carried more domestic passengers in 2007, overtaking rival Philippine Airlines (PAL). Cebu Pacific overtakes Philippine Airlines in 2007 domestic figures by over four hundred thousand passengers.

 

Cebu Pacific carried 4.46 million passengers, or 43% of 10.39 million passengers in 2007, while PAL carried 4.03 million domestic passengers in 2007.

Meanwhile, Air Philippines, the low-cost affiliate of PAL, carried 1.17 million passengers. Asian Spirit reported 484,482 passengers, while Seair had 245,020 passengers. Domestic passenger traffic in 2007 grew 22.7% from 8.47 million in 2006.

Cebu Pacific's load factor improved to 83% from 76% in 2006. PAL had load factor of 79%, up from 75% in 2006. The overall domestic load factor improved to 78% in 2007 from 73% in 2006.

In addition, in Jan-08, Cebu Air CEO, Lance Gokongwei, said Cebu Pacific's expanded fleet and a growing travel market will boost its passenger traffic numbers to 7 million in 2008, nearly 28% more than the 5.5 million passengers recorded in 2007.
