Air Philippines to buy six Bombardier aircraft
(XFN-ASIA): Low-cost carrier Air Philippines will buy six new Bombardier Q400 turbo-prop aircraft this year, said Jaime Bautista, president of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL).

Air Philippines is an affiliate of PAL and both carriers are controlled by tycoon Lucio Tan. Bautista said the 76-seater Q400 has a list price of 20 million US dollars.

"Air Philippines is going to acquire Q400 aircraft, initially six units. Financing for the planes will be through banks or export credit agencies," said Bautista.

"The units will be acquired within the year. We are looking at the last quarter of 2008," he said. In July last year, Air Philippines announced the acquisition of up to six 50-seater Bombardier Q300 aircraft for 56 million dollars to fly the booming Manila-Caticlan tourist route.

Air Philippines currently operates eight Boeing 737-200 jet aircraft.
