Flybe introduces Aberdeen-London Gatwick service
Flybe announced plans to launch a new three times daily service from Aberdeen to London Gatwick, from 30-Mar-08. Flybe has been in talks with Aberdeen Airport since BA announced it was withdrawing from the service last year.

Says Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer, Flybe: “The London Gatwick to Aberdeen service is of great strategic importance to Aberdeen and we’re delighted to be able to fill the gap and take over this abandoned route from BA…We view Scotland as an extremely important part of Flybe’s growth plans and we’re constantly looking at ways to strengthen our position in the country”.

The announcement, combined with the airline’s Loganair franchise announcement, makes Flybe Scotland’s second largest airline and Scotland’s largest airline for non-London traffic.

“Flybe is keen to use today’s Gatwick announcement as a bridgehead to further route development in Aberdeen. Flybe is working closely with the airport to introduce new services to the UK regions (places like Manchester, Norwich, Newcastle and Leeds) as well as new routes to key European business centres. We will look to bring these services in within the next 12 months,” added Mr Rutter.
