Vueling appoints Machiel Troost Country manager for the Benelux |

Machiel Troost, a Dutch national, has over 30 years of experience in the airline and travel-agent industry. After having held a series of positions in Sabena, Aerolíneas Argentinasand Kuwait Airways, Mr Troost’s most recent appointment was with PGA Portugália Airlines, where he acted as Area Sales Manager for the Benelux.
Mr Troost’s appointment is intended to give a boost to Vueling’s presence in Belgium and the Netherlands, and particularly in the travel-agent and tour-operator sales channels, which will remain a key element in Vueling’s sales strategy all throughout 2008.
Vueling currently operates from Brussels Zaventem and Amsterdam Schiphol Airports, which are amongst the oldest in Vueling’s network, having commenced operations in Jul-04 in Brussels, and Oct-05 in Amsterdam.
So far, Vueling has carried over 1.2 million passengers in the Benelux, 391,000 in Brussels and 814,000 in Amsterdam. Currently, Vueling operates ten routes in the Benelux, linking both Brussels and Amsterdam with Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, and Malaga.
Juan Carlos Iglesias, Vueling Chief Sales Officer has said: “Machiel incorporation to the Vueling team will greatly contribute to the expansion of our company abroad. Brussels and Amsterdam are two of our oldest and most important markets. 2008 will be a year of consolidation and I’m confident that Machiel’s work will yield excellent results for Vueling, not only in the travel-agents and tour-operators’ front but also in the enhancement of our overall positioning in both markets.”
