Singapore and Malaysia expand bilateral air services agreement
(CAPA FREE) Singapore and Malaysia have agreed to fully liberalise access on the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur sector from 01-Dec-08. This will allow carriers from both countries the flexibility to operate unlimited number of services between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. It will also bring both countries closer to ASEANs goal to remove all restrictions on passenger flights between ASEAN capitals by Dec-08.

As a start, with effect from 01-Feb-08, low-cost carriers from Singapore and Malaysia will be able to operate a total of four daily services on the route.  This is a positive development in aviation relations between the countries, as low-cost carriers will operate on this sector for the first time.

Transport officials from both countries have agreed to meet again in Jan-08 to discuss the further expansion of air services between Singapore and cities in Malaysia.
