Air Berlin aims to transport freight in passenger aircraft
(XFN Asia) Air Berlin CEO, Joachim Hunold, said he aims to transport freight with the carrier's passenger aircraft to take advantage of new long-haul routes to destinations, including China after the company bought LTU.

"I see cargo as a booming business in the future," Mr Hunold said.

Air Berlin in Mar-07 purchased LTU for EUR140 million, including EUR190-200 million debt, to add long-haul routes and boost growth.

The company also hopes to buy German carrier, Condo,r after Lufthansa last month decided not to exercise its right to buy Thomas Cook's 75.1% stake in the airline.

Mr Hunold said there are currently no plans for further acquisitions.

He also said he does not rule out that the company may add aircraft to carry just cargo in the future.
