WestJet welcomes Canadian Government's designation for St Lucia
(CAPA) WestJet welcomed the Federal Government's decision to grant designation for WestJet to provide scheduled service to St Lucia.

"We are pleased with the Government's decision and thank Minister Cannon for his vision," said Bob Cummings, Executive Vice-President, Guest Experience and Marketing. "This represents a tremendous opportunity for WestJet to bring our fun and friendly service to St Lucia on a scheduled basis. This news ensures that our strategic plan of deploying aircraft to warmer climates over the Winter months continues, allowing us to expand to these destinations while bringing low fares and high value to our guests.

"While this designation is effective immediately, we will be working on our Winter plans to determine the optimal offering that provides our guests with what they are looking for from WestJet - an exceptional guest experience, convenient schedules and low fares."

WestJet has been granted designation to operate scheduled service into St Lucia from Toronto.

Under the provisions of Canada's international air transportation policy, all Canadian air carriers may apply to the Minister for designation to operate scheduled international air services. This latest designation was facilitated by the bilateral air transport agreement already in place between the Government of Canada and the Government of St Lucia. The agreement permits each country to designate any number of airlines for the operation of scheduled air services between Canada and St Lucia. In addition, there are no limits on the frequency of services each designated airline is allowed to operate.

WestJet will continue to provide charter services for Transat Tours Canada. WestJet and Transat Tours Canada signed an agreement through to 2010 in Feb-07.
