Deal sees US regional Mesa link up with Shenzhen Airlines
(CAPA) US regional carrier Mesa Air announced 29-Aug-07 that it will soon launch partner operations in Mainland China with PRC budget carrier Shenzhen Airlines. Flying under the name Kun Peng Airlines, the operation will use 50-seat regional jet equipment to provide air service to smaller cities in the country's northwestern region, including some that have never received scheduled flights. Mesa Group head Jonathan Ornstein declared that the partnership, “will be a pioneer in cities off the coast and provincial areas."

At the first stage, Mesa will provide 20 aircraft, each with 50 seats. It will increase the number of aircraft depending on the success of the venture, with as many as 200 possible in the next five years. Kun Peng’s first flight – Xian to Shenzhen – is scheduled for 16-Sep-07.

Separately, Shenzen Airlines received Japanese Government approval to launch Shenzhen-Osaka, beginning Sep-07. The route will make Shenzhen Air the 12th Chinese airline to operate to Japan.
