AirAsia announced 28-Aug-07 that it will expand its commitment of resources to its operations at Senai Airport, in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
The carrier, which last year transported 700,000 passengers at the airport, recently initiated Senai-Macau services and has pans for operations to Jakarta, Bangkok and Hong Kong. It is also evaluating the feasibility of direct flights to Indonesian cities Manado and Medan.
Ultimately, the carrier sees Senai – which is the closest international airport to Singapore – as being a key staging point for services into Mainland China, especially as the Malaysian Government’s economic promotion programme – the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) project – begins to attract development funds to the south of the country.
