Start of the summer holidays in Düsseldorf: airberlin offers extensive choice of flights With a choice of about 500 flights, Germany’s second largest airline is ready to cater for the start of the summer holidays. Friday is always the busiest day of the week during the holiday period.
airberlin had already increased its choice of flights to 80 non-stop destinations in the spring, ready for the summer schedule. In addition to the six long-haul aircraft already in operation, a seventh plane, an Airbus A330-200, was available in time for the summer holidays, thereby increasing the number of aircraft stationed in Düsseldorf to 25. During the first six months of the year airberlin was able to achieve a nine per cent increase in passenger volume at Düsseldorf airport in comparison with the first half of 2010. The schedule was also restructured and optimised. In June the proportion of transit passengers using the Düsseldorf hub was 16 per cent, while the highest proportion recorded on any one day was 20 per cent. airberlin was able to offer 4,400 connecting flights each week.
Palma de Mallorca, Greece and the Canary Isles are among the favourite holiday destinations this summer. Italian resorts, especially the new destinations of Verona and Florence, are also very popular. As far as long-haul flights are concerned, the top destinations include New York, Los Angeles, Cancun and Varadero.
