Iberia and airberlin sign code share agreement

Iberia and airberlin have signed an agreement, effective today, for sharing flight codes. Iberia passengers now have easier access to much of airberlin's domestic route network and to other European cites served by Germany's second largest airline.

Iberia codes will go on airberlin flights between Düsseldorf and Hamburg, as well as Stuttgart; between Berlin and Stuttgart, Gothenburg, Oslo, and Salzburg; between Munich and Hamburg and Hanover; between Frankfurt and Hamburg; and between Barcelona and several German cities.

Meanwhile, airberlin codes will be added to Iberia flights between Madrid and Munich, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Frankfurt, Geneva, and Zurich, giving airberlin passengers more convenient access to these cities served by the Spanish airline.

Rafael Sánchez-Lozano, Iberia CEO, said: “we are very happy to strengthen our ties with airberlin, our soon-to-be partners in oneworld. This agreement will clearly benefit the customers of both airlines, as they will have access to better connections and more travel options, not only between Spain and Germany, but also to other cities in Northern and Central Europe where we both operate. I am convinced that this is just the beginning of a broader cooperation between our two airlines, which will bring our customers more benefits in the near future”.

Joachim Hunold, CEO of airberlin, said: “the codeshare with Iberia is already airberlin‘s fifth co-operation agreement with a member of the airline alliance oneworld and is therefore a further important step in the alliance. As a result of the additional flights to and from Spain, we now offer our customers a wider choice and reinforce our presence in one of our traditional core markets."

In addition, the two airlines are weighing the coordination of their frequent flyers programmes to give Iberia Plus members the chance to earn points when flying with airberlin, and members of topbonus card programme to earn points with Iberia flights.
