Jetstar to maintain year round daily Melbourne-Darwin service
(CAPA) Jetstar announced plans to maintain its existing daily Melbourne-Darwin service for the next scheduling season. For the Northern Winter scheduling period between 28-Oct-07 and 29-Mar-08, Jetstar will operate from Darwin to Brisbane (6 times weekly), to Adelaide (4 times weekly) and a daily Melbourne-Darwin service in total operating 17 weekly return services between Darwin and the nations southern capitals.

Jetstar CEO, Alan Joyce, said Jetstar has sought to strategically grow its operations in Darwin since its May-06 start-up. According to Mr Joyce, the Northern Territory’s strong economic growth was now being met by stronger customer demand for domestic services and was a catalyst for Jetstar to better compete for both corporate and leisure customers with an improved year round schedule to Darwin.

“The potential for Jetstar to pursue a longer term strategy of seeking to develop Darwin into a growing domestic and international hub in the future is supported by the maintenance of a stronger year round domestic schedule,” Mr Joyce said.

“To be competitive on the Melbourne – Darwin market Jetstar needs to operate a daily service. The move we believe will be positively received by both our existing customers and the growing numbers of travellers seeking more direct and seamless flights between both cities”.

Jetstar will introduce an additional nine A320s to its existing short haul fleet of 24 aircraft from Dec-07 providing further growth opportunities within its domestic network.
