Air India Express launching domestic services, GoAir Managing Director to step down
(CAPA): An Indian government-backed LCC is poised to enter the domestic LCC market for the first time later this year, going head-to-head with the country's privately-owned LCCs. Air India Express, a unit of Air India, announced plans to launch domestic LCC services on 01-Oct-07.

The domestic operation will involve two new B737-800s, plus the existing fleet of state-owned carrier, Alliance Air. Alliance Air's fare structure will be changed under the move and its ageing fleet of B737-200s will be phased out, possibly converted to freighters for the parent's new cargo operation.

Meanwhile, the founder and Managing Director of LCC GoAir, Jeh Wadia, announced plans to step down from Sep-07, and appoint a CEO for the carrier. The carrier also confirmed it is “open” to a strategic investor acquiring up to 26% of the airline and has received proposals that are currently being evaluated.
