Federal Government grants designation for WestJet to provide services to Mexico
WestJet has been granted designation to operate scheduled service into San Jose del Cabo, Mazatlan, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and Manzanillo from Edmonton and Calgary, and to San Jose del Cabo and Manzanillo from Vancouver, effective immediately.

"We welcome the government's decision and thank Minister Cannon for his vision," said Sean Durfy, WestJet President. "This represents a tremendous opportunity for WestJet to bring our fun and friendly service to Mexico on a scheduled basis. This news ensures that our strategic plan of continued international expansion is on course”.

"While this designation is effective immediately, we will be working on our Winter plans to determine the optimal offering that provides our guests with what they are looking for from WestJet - an exceptional guest experience, convenient schedules and low fares."

WestJet will continue to provide charter operations for Transat Tours Canada, after signed an agreement through to 2010 in Feb-07, with Mr Durfy stating, "Transat Tours Canada remains an important partner for WestJet".
