AirAsia signs agreement for inflight communication services

(CAPA) AirAsia signed a MoU with OnAir Switzerland to provide an inflight global system for mobile communications/general packet radio services on AirAsia's fleet of A320s. The system will enable passengers to make and receive calls, send and receive text messages, and access emails on-board.

The airline will be the first airline in Asia to deploy the service. The OnAir services will be introduced in early-09, with a total of 150 aircraft being equipped by 2013. No financial details were provided.

AirAsia’s new venture AirAsiaX, also signed a similar agreement for OnAir’s passenger communications services, to be installed on the airline’s newly ordered Airbus A330 aircraft.
