South Korea's Asiana says it has no plan for LCC.
(CAPA) - South Korea's Asiana Airlines said it has no plans at present to follow its rival, Korean Air, into Asia's budget aviation market. We are not considering launching a low-cost carrier, Air Asiana spokeswoman, Lee Chayoun, said.

Korean Air announced on 04-Jun-07 plans to launch a LCC within three years, to cover domestic and short- and medium-haul international routes in order to respond to growing demand for cheaper travel, stating "Korean Air will no longer remain indifferent to the invasion of low-cost carriers from China and Southeast Asia into the Korean market".

Discount carriers make up 20% of the US and European air travel market and are expanding quickly in China and Southeast Asia.

Chinese and Southeast Asian LCC are selling fares 50% cheaper than Korean Air on routes to China, the Korean carrier said. On domestic routes two LCCs, Hansung Airlines and Jeju Air, are 30% cheaper.

Date posted: 06-Jun-07.
