Nok Air, which has a 28% market share domestically in Thailand, will offer fares on the route from USD123 on way, some 40% below prevailing market rates.
Qantas’ Singapore-based LCC unit, Jetstar, suspended services to Bangalore last year, due to weak demand. But Nok Air estimates traffic between India and Thailand is growing by up to 30% p/a and it plans to operate to Chennai from Oct-07 and Hyderabad in 2008, to capture market demand and enhance its utilisation rates.
The carrier also has rights to operate to New Delhi, but that route is dominated by parent, Thai Airways, as well as Indian Airlines, Air India and Jet Airways.
Nok Air expects to break even on Indian services with a 70% passenger load factor. The airline’s fleet consists of six B737-400s and one 66-seat ATR-72.
