A new low-cost, long-haul connection starts from Stansted this week as Flyglobespan launch daily flights linking Stansted and Canadas biggest city Toronto. SunExpress is also expanding their UK network with a new direct service to Izmir (Turkey), with onward connections to the newly emerging tourist market of Ercan in Northern Cyprus.
“Expansion of long-haul is firmly on our agenda so we’re delighted to see Flyglobespan start long-haul daily flights linking Stansted to Toronto’s Hamilton airport in Canada,” said Nick Barton, BAA Stansted business development and planning director.
“With one-way economy fares starting at just £99 and business class from £204 this is set to be a really popular affordable service for business and leisure passengers alike.
“We’ve already seen great success with the development of Stansted’s American connections to New York, Las Vegas and Washington; and future links to Asia, Dubai and India are firmly in our sights. We’re in on-going discussions with a number of airlines keen to tap into the long-haul opportunities here at Stansted, the growth of which I’m sure will build on the great success we’ve achieved in developing our European network.
“Northern Cyprus is one of Europe’s newly emerging tourist markets – and with current restrictions meaning all flights must connect via mainland Turkey - its great news that Ercan now has a low-cost link from the UK with SunExpress services from Stansted.
“SunExpress has enjoyed great success on its route to Antalya from Stansted since it began earlier this year, and advance bookings show that the Izmir / Ercan links are set to be just as popular.”
