In the orientation class started at 8:00am, Monday, April 30, 2007, at the airline's Atlanta training centre, 152 Crew Members reported to work on their first day to begin the customary company orientation prior to embarking on their job-specific training.
The class beginning on April 30, consists of mechanics, reservations agents, customer service agents, ramp agents, crew planners and schedulers and various other functions; and they represent several cities across AirTran Airways' system - including Atlanta, Ga., Boston, Mass., Milwaukee, Wis., Orlando, Fla., Philadelphia, Penn., and St. Louis, Mo.
All new hires with AirTran Airways, regardless of their work locations, complete their initial training in the company's Atlanta training centre.
"To have 152 new hires start with AirTran Airways on one day is an incredible accomplishment for this airline," said Joe Leonard, AirTran Airways Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "We are delivering on our promises of job growth."
On June 30, 2006, Joe Leonard, held a press conference with Governor Sonny Perdue at the airline's hangar at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport pledging to create 2,500 new jobs over 5-years at the airline.
Since that announcement, the airline has already created 800 new jobs - well on its way to the goal of 2,500 new jobs.
With the additional 152 new hires starting today, the airline's total employment now surpasses 8,537 Crew Members.
