Malaysia's AirAsia to make material announcement on April 24
KUALA LUMPUR (XFN-ASIA) - Long-haul budget air services provider AirAsia X is likely to make a material announcement regarding its aircraft policy on April 24, the Bernama news agency reported, citing AirAsia group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes.

"AirAsia X is moving on nicely. I think they are going to make an important announcement on April 24," Fernandes said.

Fly Asian Xpress, the owner of AirAsia X, is the associate company of AirAsia.

The company earlier said AirAsia X would begin its services only in September next year, compared to its initial target of June this year, as aircraft leasing costs were higher-than-projected.

Meanwhile, Fly Asian Xpress chief executive officer Raja Mohamad Azmi said the company plans to order 15 aircraft for AirAsia X, but he did not say whether these would be from Airbus or Boeing, according to the report.
