Malaysia's AirAsia to launch 4-6 new routes this year

AirAsia Bhd plans this year to introduce between four and six new routes, including Ho Chi Minh City, Vientiane and an unspecified destination in Myanmar.

KUALA LUMPUR (XFN-ASIA) - AirAsia Bhd plans this year to introduce between four and six new routes, including Ho Chi Minh City, Vientiane and an unspecified destination in Myanmar, the Star reported, quoting chief executive officer Tony Fernandes.

At the group level, the new routes could total nine, according to the report. Fernandes said the company is currently working to secure the rights for those destinations. ''For our Indonesian unit, we plan to reintroduce the Jakarta-Johor Baru sector and launch a new route between Jakarta and Kuching. I see a lot of connectivity happening,'' Fernandes was quoted as saying.
