WestJet's 'up!' magazine wins National Magazine Award

up! magazine, the in-flight publication for WestJet Airlines produced by RedPoint Media Group on a contract basis, won Gold at the National Magazine Awards on Friday.
Writer Chris Koentges's "L.A. Torn Mad with Footsteps," a story which appeared in the Nov-2008 issue, won the One-of-a-Kind category. Two other RedPoint publications also received a total of three honourable mentions, with two of these going to Avenue magazine for "Urban Brawl" by Craig Davidson in the Sports & Recreation category, which appeared in the Nov-2008 issue, and for "The Pour" wine column's "Born in the USA" illustration by Karen Klassen in the Spot Illustration category, which appeared in the Apr-2008 issue. RedPoint Media's CalgaryInc magazine also won an honourable mention in the Best Single Issue category for Sep-2008's "Top 40 Under 40" issue.
up! Magazine editor and RedPoint editorial director, Tom Gierasimczuk said, "After four consecutive years of being nominated for Canada's top magazine awards, it feels great for everyone at up! magazine, WestJet Airlines, and RedPoint Media to win gold.
