Ryanair welcomes local council refusal of BAA Stansted expansion plans

Ryanair, Stansted Airports largest airline, today (22nd November) welcomed the report of Uttlesford District Council Planning Officers which recommended refusal of BAAs planning permission for its Stansted expansion plans. Ryanair today called on the Uttlesford District Council to support the recommendation of their Planning Officers and reject the current expansion plans of BAA Stansted.
Welcoming this development today, Ryanair’s spokesman, Peter Sherrard, said:
“The current expansion plans of the BAA Stansted monopoly do not have the support of either the local community or the main airport users at Stansted. This rejection of these expansion plans by the Uttlesford District Council Planning Department will be welcomed by both the main airline users and the local community in Stansted.
“Ryanair supports the sensible expansion of BAA Stansted. We not alone support but have offered to pay for a second runway and a second terminal at Stansted but these offers have been rejected by the BAA monopoly. We again call on the BAA monopoly to work with the main airport users and the local community at Stansted to design efficient, cost effective facilities which will then have the support of the main airport users and the local community.
“Today’s refusal of their expansion plans affords the BAA monopoly an opportunity to work with – and obtain the support of - the airport users and the local residents, instead of trying to impose over-specified, inefficient facilities which users neither want nor support.
“Ryanair calls on the Uttlesford District Council Development Control Committee to support the recommendations of its Planning Officers and reject the present Stansted expansion plans”.
