LCCs lead complaint against Los Angeles charges increase
AirTran Airways, ATA Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines and three other carriers - Alaskan Airlines, Midwest Airlines and US Airways - filed a joint complaint against a decision by Los Angeles World Airports, operator of Los Angeles International Airport.
The complain was lodged with the US Department of Transportation (DoT), responding to a Feb-07 decision by LAWA to increase charges at Terminals 1 and 3 at the airport.
In the submission to the DoT, the carriers stated that the increase “unjustly discriminates against airlines with expired leases, while competing airlines with leases expiring in 15 to 20 years are charged dramatically less for comparable terminal space."
