Bill of Rights threatened (and promised) as JetBlue snow woes continue
A Valentine's Day snowstorm in New York led to several of JetBlue's fully laden aircraft being stranded on the ramp at New York's JFK Airport for up to 10 hours. Then JFK was confined to one runway operations on 15 February and JetBlue's flight cancellations continued over the long weekend. The airline was forced to extend its operational recovery programme into Monday, cancelling 23% of its flights in order to operate a reliable schedule and to continue its work in positioning aircraft and flight crews properly.

JetBlue was not alone in having problems, but the media frenzy has targeted the New York based LCC most aggressively. And, US politicians have been quick to jump on the bandwagon. The outcome, now that some have recognised the instant notoriety they can gain from taking "tough" positions, could well be the introduction of the often threatened legislated consumer "Bill of Rights". A California Democrat, Sen. Barbara Boxer, has been leading the charge, with somewhat simplistic proposals which would permit passengers to leave an aircraft by right after a certain period.
