Jet2.com new route Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh
The new Sharm el Sheikh route has been launched as the Egyptian resort becomes increasingly popular with British tourists who are keen to visit locations even further afield, with guaranteed year round sunshine - direct from their local airport.

On sale from 13-May-09, the Jet2.com flights will depart weekly to Sharm el Sheikh and will commence on 17-Oct-09. Prices start from GMP89.99 one way, including all taxes.

With year-round sunshine, amazing coral reefs for diving enthusiasts, and one of the seven wonders of the world - Egypt’s spectacular pyramids just a road trip away - Sharm el Sheikh offers something for everyone. The resort is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Arabic world.

Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com, announced “Sharm el Sheikh is proving to be an increasingly popular destination for UK tourists who flock there for guaranteed, year round sunshine, the spectacular sites and scenery of Egypt.

“The North-African destination is ideal for everyone, from people who want a sun-drenched break by the pool, to those who want to explore the region’s magnificent underwater scenery. We are sure Sharm el Sheikh is going to be an extremely successful addition to our range of leading sunshine destinations – and extremely popular with North East holidaymakers.”

Wendy Dawley, spokeswoman for Newcastle International Airport said, "It's excellent news that Jet2 have added a further destination to their network from the North East. This is further endorsement of Newcastle Airport by one of our key airline partners.

"Sharm el Sheikh has been a very popular destination with North East holidaymakers for a number of years now. The addition of these new low cost flights give passengers even greater choice."
