Fatimah announced “I couldn’t believe my luck at first! Why did AirAsia want to give me RM10,000? I was astonished because I hadn’t submitted any contest form and I didn’t know that I automatically qualified for the lucky draw simply by booking a seat on AirAsia,”in describing her initial reaction upon hearing that she won the prize.
The contest, Fly and Win, is AirAsia’s way of thanking its guests for voting it the World’s Best Low Cost Airline in the latest Skytrax survey, which polled more than 16.2 million travelers.
The contest is valid for all AirAsia guests residing in Malaysia and Singapore who book seats at www.airasia.com or mobile.airasia.com between 6 and 26 April 2009 for travel between 5 May 2009 and 31 July 2010. They stand a chance to win a RM10,000 or S$5,000 cash prize during weekly draws on April 13, 20 and 27. The bookings must be for travel originating from any destination in Malaysia or Singapore and payments must be made in Malaysian ringgit or Singapore dollars.
Fatimah booked a seat on AirAsia’s Kota Kinabalu-Tawau route within the contest period.
Last week, AirAsia awarded its first RM10,000 Fly and Win prize to Alan Ho, an insurance claims manager based in Kuala Lumpur. Alan booked seats for domestic flights to Kuching, Miri and Kuala Lumpur.
Fatimah said that she first learned of her win from a cousin who saw AirAsia’s announcement in the newspaper. For lack of a copy of the same newspaper, Fatimah bought another one – printed in Chinese – to see if it carried a similar announcement. Unable to read Chinese, she pored over the paper until she found her name printed in the English alphabet.
“I am thrilled about my prize! I have now arranged for a trip to KL and Makassar next month with my husband, eldest daughter and parents. We’re staying overnight in KL at Tune Hotel, which has given us a separate treat by letting me have the room for only RM20 per night. Then we’re all going to Makassar to unwind and visit my cousin,” Fatimah, 38, said.
Another trip is being planned to include Fatimah’s three younger children, but she said that this will have to wait until the long school holiday arrives.
Fatimah’s colleagues at the bank where she works are equally ecstatic about her win.
“Everyone around me is excited. My boss in Kuala Lumpur saw my name listed as the prize winner in a newspaper, and he called my boss in Kota Kinabalu, who in turn called me at 10:30 p.m. just to confirm the news. Also, my colleagues are happy about my good luck and have asked me for lunch at Hyatt. I have yet to give them a special lunch treat!” she laughed.
Fatimah regularly flies on AirAsia to travel between Kota Kinabalu, where she works, and Tawau, where her parents are based.
