Sydney Airport has welcomed Tiger Airways' announcement (03-Apr-09) that it will start flying from Sydney in Jul-09. Tiger Airways Australia will be expanding its network by adding the new Sydney-Melbourne route.
The CEO of Sydney Airport, Russell Balding, said that this is another great win for Sydney. Mr Balding said, "Sydney is Australia's biggest tourist attraction and the extra choice Tiger Airways provides will give people from Melbourne an extra reason to visit Sydney.
"The entry of Tiger Airways into the Sydney market is a real boost for domestic tourism. Sydney Airport is a major contributor to Sydney's economy and the arrival of Tiger Airways is very good news for all those people employed in Sydney's tourism, hospitality, and related industries.
"Tiger Airways is also another option for Sydney travellers to consider when they next fly to Melbourne.
"Sydney Airport congratulates Tiger Airways on its decision to fly from Sydney and looks forward to working closely with Tiger Airways staff as they grow their operations.”
Tiger Airways will be flying from the T2 Terminal which has recently been upgraded with a larger food court as well as new carpet, seating and LCD monitors in gate lounges, refurbished bathrooms and extensive concourse re-tiling.
