Vice President Maintenance Material Planning and Supply Department of Japan Airlines, Keita Sataka, said, “Japan Airlines has a long history with Thales. Together, we have been striving to offer our passengers a refreshing and exciting experience every single time they fly with us.”
Beyond the system itself, JAL is looking at Thales’s Turnkey Maintenance program called TopCare, under which the management of every aspect of the in-flight system will be taken care of by Thales.
Vice President and General Manager of Thales’s In-Flight Entertainment Systems business, Alan Pellegrini, said, “Japan Airlines is one of our first IFE customers, dating back to 1997, when we first installed our first generation AVOD system on part of JAL’s 747-400 fleet. Since then, we certainly have learned much from them and continue to keep our focus on what really makes both the airline and their passengers satisfied. We look forward to progressing ahead with this arrangement as appropriate.”
Thales is planning to install throughout each aircraft audio and video on-demand and other compelling applications.
Thales was already selected last year, after extensive reviews of both its product and services, to fit Japan Airlines’ new Boeing 787 aircraft with its TopSeries IFE systems. Japan Airlines’ B787 fleet will offer larger in-seat monitor displays, and will feature the new Thales passenger control unit, which has a high style appearance and slim design.
