Malaysia Airports responds to media report regarding management of IAA
On 31-Mar-07, Malaysia Airports Management & Technical Services (Labuan) Private Limited entered into a Trust Management Agreement with the Department of Finance of the Astana Akimat, Republic of Kazakhstan. Malaysia Airports Management & Technical Services (Labuan) Private Limited ("MAMTS Labuan") is a subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Management & Technical Services Sdn Bhd ("MAMTS") and MAMTS in turn is a subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad ("MAHB").
The International Airport Astana ("IAA") was managed, operated and maintained by the Joint Stock Company International Airport Astana ("JSC IAA") which is a wholly owned company of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Government of Kazakhstan has agreed to transfer the entire state shareholding in the JSC IAA under trust management to MAMTS Labuan.
During the first year of operation, Malaysia Airports has managed to resolve many of the financial, technical and operational issues to improve the performance of IAA. This has been confirmed by the Government of Kazakhstan. However in Sep-08, following a change of the Airport President, the JSC IAA has reduced the direct involvement and active participation of Malaysia Airports in the management of IAA. Malaysia Airports is presently in discussion with the Government of Kazakhstan to resolve these issues.
Currently, Malaysia Airports' other overseas ventures comprise the operations and management of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Turkey.
