AirAsia X to launch European cargo service
AirAsia X announced (26-Feb-09) that it will commence its cargo service to and from Europe with the inception of its maiden flight on 11-Mar-09 between its hub in Kuala Lumpur and London, Stansted. The five times weekly direct flights which will be operated with an Airbus A340-300, is expected to carry around 8,000 kg of cargo per flight.



AirAsia X has appointed IAM, Network Cargo Services, FlyUs, Global Cargo Management and ACT as its cargo sales agents in Western Europe while cargo handling at London Stansted will be undertaken by Aviance.

AirAsia X is currently operating its low-cost long-haul service with three Airbus A330 aircraft plying routes from Kuala Lumpur to Australia and China, while the Kuala Lumpur-London route will be serviced by an Airbus A340. The airline has a total order of 25 Airbus A330 aircraft which will be delivered progressively over the next five years.

CEO of AirAsia X, Azran Osman-Rani said, “We believe Stansted is an excellent hub to serve all of Europe, with its extensive network of services that provide excellent connectivity. In addition to that, with our extensive network across Southeast Asia, China, Australia, India and now Europe combined with the services offered by Aviance, we are confident that this new service offered to the airfreight industry is extremely appealing to freight forwarders.”
