WestJet designated to operate scheduled services between Ottawa and Cancun, Mexico
Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird announced (14-Jan-09) that WestJet Airlines Ltd. has been designated to operate scheduled international air services between Ottawa and Cancun, Mexico.

Minister Baird said, "The Government of Canada's designation of this Canadian airline will provide more choice for travellers, create new jobs and boost our economy. It is proof of the excellent working relationship between Canada and Mexico and also gives more economic flexibility to consumers."

Under the provisions of Canada's international air transportation policy, all Canadian air carriers may apply to the Minister for designation to operate scheduled international air services. These designations strengthen Canada's competitive position in the air transportation industry by giving Canadian airlines and airports greater access to international markets.
