Southwest Airlines reports Dec-08 traffic
Southwest Airlines announced (06-Jan-09) that the Company flew 5.8 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in Dec-08, a 1.1% increase from the 5.7 billion RPMs flown in Dec-07. Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased 1.0% to 8.3 billion from the Dec-07 level of 8.4 billion.

 

The load factor for the month was 69.7%, compared to 68.2% for the same period last year. For the fourth quarter 2008, Southwest flew 17.3 billion RPMs, a 1.4% decrease from the 17.5 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 2007.

Available seat miles increased 0.8 percent to 25.5 billion from the fourth quarter
2007 level of 25.3 billion. The fourth quarter 2008 load factor was 67.8%, compared to 69.3% for the same period last year.

For the year ended 31-Dec-08, Southwest flew 73.5 billion RPMs, a 1.6% increase from the 72.3 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 2007. Available seat miles increased 3.6% to 103.3 billion from the 2007 level of 99.6 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 71.2%, compared to 72.6% for the same period last year.
