Jetstar to offer more flexibility to customers
Following a recent decision in the Supreme Court of Victoria upholding Jetstar’s appeal and setting aside an earlier decision of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), Jetstar will again introduce the flexibility to change the passenger name on a JetSaver and JetSaver Light fare, upon payment of the fare difference and a change fee.

This will be available for all JetSaver and JetSaver Light fares regardless of booking date.

It is applicable to JetSaver and JetSaver Light fares purchased both within Australia and in all international markets for travel with Jetstar and including Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam.

Following a finding by VCAT in Jul-07, Jetstar had withdrawn this option and as a result, since then name changes have not been permitted on JetSaver fares and subsequently JetSaver Light fares, which are non-refundable.

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan welcomed the Supreme Court decision and the valuable guidance it will provide in interpreting the obligations of businesses under the Fair Trading Act.

Mr Buchanan said the recent decision had provided the opportunity to again offer more flexibility for customers.

Mr Buchanan said, “We have always believed in providing levels of flexibility for our customers within our every day low fare offers, and this important product change will once again be offered for our most popular airfare products.”

“There is real benefit for our customers to have the choice to change a passenger name on JetSaver and JetSaver Light fare products directly with our airline.

“It is important to note that the fare difference at the time a customer wishes to make a change may be significant, particularly for customers who purchase Jetstar’s deeply discounted fares.

“However customers who no longer wish to travel on their booking have another option rather than just forfeit the fare they paid.”
