Ryanair confirmed (12-Dec-08) that it continues to defy industry predictions that the airline industry will see traffic plummet in 2009 as it confirmed a large increase in sales of its Christmas gift vouchers with sales for Christmas 2008 over 10% ahead of the same period in 2007.
Ryanair believes that as a result of the economic slowdown people are replacing high cost gifts with low cost – high impact gifts which will allow family and friends to take a short break or holiday on one of Ryanair’s routes in 2009.
Ryanair’s gift vouchers, which are redeemable online, are available from EUR20.
Ryanair’s Head of Sales, Lesley Kane, said:
“The economic slowdown has resulted in people seeking great value gift ideas for Christmas. Most people can’t cut down the number of gifts they have to buy, but they can reduce their budget and with Ryanair they can send family and friends away for a weekend break or a well deserved holiday next year. Gift Voucher Sales have increased by 10% over 2007 and with Ryanair reducing fares by up to 20% this winter and as vouchers are now redeemable online, Ryanair’s Christmas Gift Vouchers have never been better value or easier to use”.
