Jetstar Chief Executive Bruce Buchanan said of the 30 million domestic passengers who had flown with Jetstar around Australia so far, two in every five of them had travelled for less than AUD100.
Mr Buchanan said, “A total of 13 million passengers have flown with us for less than AUD100 and of those, almost 2 million passengers have flown for less than AUD50.”
“A key aspect of our business is to allow more Australians to fly, more often.
He said, “When Jetstar started out four years ago, as many as 10 per cent of our passengers were flying for the first time. We’re proud to have made air travel in Australia more affordable, accessible and popular than ever before as demonstrated by our 30 millionth domestic passenger today.”
Jetstar has grown rapidly since commencing services in May-04, when it launched with services to 14 destinations along the Australian east coast. The airline now operates to 20 Australian ports, plus 10 international destinations, with tens of thousands of passengers each day.
Mr Buchanan said, “Checking in our 30 millionth domestic passenger is a fantastic achievement for a company not yet five years old. Importantly, it also reflects the role Jetstar is playing to contribute to the growth of the Australian tourism industry.”
