Volaris - Upgrades to IAE V2500 SelectOne for future aircrafts
IAE International Aero Engines announced (21-Nov-08) that Volaris, has chosen to upgrade its future engine deliveries for 14 aircraft to the V2500 SelectOne standard. In Jan-06, Toluca-based Volaris placed an order for V2500-A5s to power 16 firm and 40 option Airbus A319s, all backed by IAE’s V2500Select aftermarket package.

The airline firmed 14 of these aircraft options in July last year and this deal covers the engines for these aircraft. In total, the airline already operates 21 V2500-powered aircraft.

Enrique Beltranena, CEO of Volaris, said: “In today’s market conditions, any opportunity to drive additional cost savings out of our operation is welcomed. By equipping our forthcoming aircraft with the new V2500 SelectOne™ engine we also show our firm commitment to the environment and take any opportunity we can to reduce CO2 emissions from our operations.“

IAE Regional Vice President Americas, Steve Pattison, said: “Volaris has long recognized the significant fuel advantage generated by the V2500 and their decision to upgrade to V2500 SelectOne™ will enable the airline to benefit from an additional one percent fuel burn savings.”

The 22,000-33,000lb of thrust V2500 is available in seven different thrust settings to power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 Family of aircraft as well as the Airbus Corporate Jetliner. More than 5,000 V2500 engines are in service or on firm order. Around 75% of Airbus A320s in service in Latin America are powered by the IAE engine.
