Tiger Airways celebrates first birthday
Tiger Airways celebrated (23-Nov-08) its first birthday with more free seats. Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director, Shelley Roberts, said, “What better way to celebrate this significant milestone than with many more fantastic low fares. It is what we do best and today we have plenty to celebrate.”

Shelley said, “I am so very happy to be at the helm of Australia’s only true low fare airline at our home base in Melbourne”.

“When Tiger Airways announced it would enter the Australian domestic market there were a few naysayers and prophets of doom - largely the wishful thinking of our competitors. A year on from our first flight, having navigated one of the toughest years in aviation history, Tiger Airways is going from strength to strength.

“We have demonstrated that for too long travelers in Australia were paying too much for their flights. In fact, this year Tiger Airways has saved the 1.3 million clever passengers who traveled with us around AUD60 million through not having to pay the high fares of incumbent carriers. The arrival of Tiger Airways has forever changed the domestic market in Australia and the incumbents today are forced to follow Tiger Airways - the undisputed low fare leader.”

Tiger Airways is setting up its second base in Adelaide with the first flights commencing from March next year with 2 more brand new Airbus A320 aircraft. This will add flights from Adelaide to Perth, Hobart, the Gold Coast, Alice Springs, and Canberra as well as additional flights from Melbourne to the airline’s 11 established routes.

Shelley said, “Just the other day I was asked what next? Well it is simple. More planes, more frequencies, more destinations but most importantly more of our famous low low fares – more real choice for our customers.”

“ I would personally like to thank everyone who has contributed to setting up our airline for success: Our hardworking Tiger team and crew, our home airport in Melbourne, other destination airports around the country, our partners Aerocare, John Holland Aviation services and of course the State Governments and tourism bodies around Australia. “Thanks guys. There are exciting times ahead for Tiger Airways, and with your help we will continue to build a successful and sustainable business in Australia”.
