To commemorate the occasion, Tiger Airways has announced that it is now offering free seats - travellers have to pay the airport charges and taxes. Rosalynn Tay, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Singapore said, “Tiger Airways has made history today by being the first low fare airline from Singapore to fly to East Malaysia, right here in Kuching. Since 2004 we have been in active dialogue with ASEAN Governments to allow Tiger Airways link Singapore with ASEAN nations with our low, low fares. So what better way to celebrate a new route and liberalization than with FREE seats.”
“Today we celebrate the positive steps that Singapore and Malaysia’s governments have taken to liberalize air travel between the two countries. Tiger Airways is delighted to finally have the opportunity to provide true low fare travel to East Malaysia. The introduction low, low fares by Tiger Airways will provide an important economic booster to trade and tourism between the two cities and stimulate further economic growth. Now friends and relatives from both cities have more access to their loved ones with our low fare flights offered.”
Dato’ Seri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports said: “Malaysia Airports would like to extend our warm welcome to Tiger Airways for making Kuching one of their destinations, and providing direct connections to Singapore from Kuching.”
He added: “I strongly believe this service will be a fruitful route for Tiger Airways, and Kuching will benefit in terms of passenger movements and tourism.”
