Jetstar international to fly direct to Malaysia on Sydney Kuala Lumpur* route |

Jetstar plans to commence direct Sydney Kuala Lumpur* services 3 times weekly from 9 September 2007, the latest international market to be flown from Australia under the Jetstar brand with wide bodied aircraft.
The fully owned Qantas subsidiary will start long haul operations to Malaysia flying 303 seat Airbus A330-200s offering two classes of service including StarClass, Jetstar’s business class. The flights are subject to regulatory approval.Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce made the announcement in Singapore during an address to the 4th Annual Asia Pacific Low Cost Carrier Congress.
Mr Joyce said Qantas had made a formal application seeking a capacity allocation for Qantas Group services on the route.
He said the Sydney – Kuala Lumpur route would be a new Qantas Group market and Qantas would extend existing codeshare arrangements on Jetstar to these proposed services.
Jetstar is now offering one way web sale Economy fares from AUD 249 and StarClass for AUD 999 at Jetstar.com for its proposed Sydney-Kuala Lumpur* services. These fares are all inclusive.
Within Malaysia one way web sale Economy fares are now available from MYR 250# and StarClass for MYR 2300# (exclusive of surcharges, fees and taxes of MYR 383.26).
The sale will end at 12 noon (AEST) 24 January 2007, unless seats sell out prior. Sale fares are for the travel period between 9 September – 14 November 2007*. Sale fares are subject to availability. Further details at Jetstar.com.
“Jetstar continues to take a price leadership position in international leisure markets for Qantas offering choice for both Australian and international travellers,” Mr Joyce said.
“This next growth phase for Jetstar is part of the Qantas Group’s future two brand strategy.
“We are excited by the prospects of entering this route with a highly competitive, two class product that since our launch long haul flight last November, is operating ahead of expectations.”
Mr Joyce said a commercial agreement between the airline and Malaysia Airports Holdings had been finalised.
“Jetstar has worked closely with Malaysia Airports who have developed a satisfactory commercial agreement, including choice of terminal to support our launch of value based international services into KLIA in September,” Mr Joyce said.
Dato’ Seri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports said, “Malaysia Airports is delighted with this announcement by Jetstar to start their operations to Kuala Lumpur as they will be the first airline from Australia operating to KL International Airport (KLIA). This is indeed a breakthrough for Malaysia Airports.
“This latest news is a further testament that our concerted efforts to bring more airlines to fly to Kuala Lumpur are bearing fruit and Jetstar operations will further contribute towards the success of Visit Malaysia Year 2007.”
Jetstar will be the second fully foreign-owned low cost carrier to fly to KLIA after Cebu Pacific Airways made their debut in December last year.
Sydney Airport CEO, Russell Balding, welcomed Jetstar’s latest international flights from Sydney.
“This is great news for passengers, Sydney Airport and the tourism industry. Jetstar’s international flights from Sydney have grown quickly and once the Kuala Lumpur service commences there will be 31 Jetstar flights each week,” Mr Balding said.
“Sydney Airport is the nation’s gateway and handles almost 50 per cent of Australia’s international flights.”
Jetstar successfully commenced value based long haul international flights in November 2006, and now directly serves 5 international markets from either Sydney or Melbourne flying an existing 18 weekly return services. These markets include Bangkok, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Bali and Honolulu.
Jetstar international operations will further grow when a daily service to Osaka direct from Sydney and return via Brisbane commences from 25 March 2007*. Other future services include Cairns-Nagoya (6 times weekly from 2 August 2007)* and Cairns-Osaka (4 times weekly from 8 September 2007)*.
StarClass on Jetstar international routes will bring business class service with an international economy fare. This includes extended legroom and a wider seat with in-seat power, video on demand, priority check-in and boarding and access to lounges.
Jetstar’s initial fleet of Airbus A330-200s, numbering six by mid 2007, will transition to a fleet of 12 new Boeing 787 aircraft, with delivery of Jetstar’s first B787 scheduled for August 2008.
