Malaysia's AirAsia says no plans to issue new shares in near term
KUALA LUMPUR (XFN-ASIA) - AirAsia Bhd said it has no plans to raise fresh capital through a rights issue or a share placement in the near term, contrary to earlier reports.

"At some point in the future, the company may consider raising funds via an equity exercise, but there is no such plan in the short term," a company spokesperson told XFN-Asia.

Earlier reports said the budget carrier is considering raising new funds via a rights issue and a share placement.

A report in the Asian Wall Street Journal said the airline could raise as much as 200 mln usd by selling new shares.

Early this month, AirAsia placed an order with Airbus to buy 50 A320 planes, and the airline said it would fund the purchase by a combination of borrowings, internal reserves and operating cashflow.

The airline later told investment analysts that plans to raise funds by issuing new shares had been delayed.
