| Jetstar Profile |
Jetstar pilots currently operate the airlines existing mixed fleet of A320s and remaining B717s on Australian domestic and some trans-Tasman routes. The agreement allows Jetstars pilots to continue with mixed fleet flying between its A320 fleet and the launch aircraft for its proposed long haul operations, the A330-200 (ahead of the arrival of B787s in 2008).
While the proposal was supported by Jetstar pilots, it was opposed by Qantas pilots because it would see the long-haul LCC pilots paid up to AUD100,000 p/a less than their mainline counterparts. Jetstar pilots were offered a lower base pay (AUD148,000 p/a), but enhanced career prospects by advancing to the rank of captain more quickly.
