Virgin blue to launch new direct Launceston - Brisbane flight

Virgin Blue Airlines has announced it will launch a brand new seasonal service between Brisbane and Launceston to provide direct access between the two destinations.
It is the first time in the airline’s eight year history that it will offer a convenient direct flight to Brisbane to complement existing direct flights from Launceston to Melbourne and Sydney.
Virgin Blue has committed to operate a daily flight from 15-Dec-08, just in time for school holidays and the Christmas festive season. The carrier will use one of its brand new EMBRAER E-Jets to operate the route following the scheduled arrival of more aircraft direct from Brazil in November. At this stage the route is on sale for flights up until 04-Apr-09.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “We made the decision to launch the direct service due to the large number of Guests who were using our connecting services via both Melbourne and Sydney to continue on to Brisbane.
“Obviously a direct flight is more desirable and daily services will provide plenty of choice for travellers keen to visit friends and family or take a holiday in the Sunshine State or Tasmania. Both Launceston and Brisbane have plenty to offer and we are confident the summer season is the ideal time to offer new services between the two destinations.”
Fares will start from AUD139* one-way on the internet. Virgin Blue currently operates four daily direct flights from Launceston to Melbourne and a daily direct flight between Launceston and Sydney with connecting flights to other destinations across Australia.
Brett Godfrey added, “Launceston has been good to Virgin Blue, the community has embraced our service style, our affordable fares and our modern aircraft and we have always maintained we would support the communities that support us. We have taken a punt by committing resources to this new route and will see how demand for the summer service goes before reviewing options for an ongoing service.
