| Air Berlin Profile |
The GBAS system has been installed in the Boeing 737NG-new deliveries by Air Berlin Group since June 2007 in addition to the currently used approach system ILS (Instrument Landing System). GBAS evaluation approaches on which both systems are used simultaneously are being planned for the ground stations in Berlin and Malaga, which are equipped with GBAS.
GBAS is more favourably priced than ILS in terms of the purchase price and maintenance of the ground stations and will in the future enable a more precise and effective approach procedure. This will consequently enable an improved attainable airspace utilisation over airports and kerosene can be saved and noise reduced in the flight approach areas. Above all GBAS is presently being used in USA. No other airline in Europe apart from Air Berlin is currently using it.
